RM6.31 Billion Business Expansions in SAMA JAYA HIGH TECH PARK

KUCHING – YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan, Deputy Chief Minister/Minister for International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development and Second Minister for Urban Development and Natural Resources, Sarawak today was briefed by four companies in Sama Jaya High Tech Park, namely Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., HGST Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., IMM Technology Sdn. Bhd. and LONGi Kuching Sdn. Bhd. on their expansion plans totalling RM6.31 billion.


These E&E companies have performed well even during the pandemic due to high demand globally for E&E related products such as solar, multilayer ceramic capacitors, aluminium substrates and copperfoil.  Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, these multinational corporations in Sama Jaya have proceeded with their huge expansion plans, reflecting their total confidence in Sarawak Government’s business friendly policy as well as the State Government’s ability to contain Covid-19.  Almost all of the 13,700 workforce in Sama Jaya had been vaccinated with first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine under the PPVIN Programme.  Sama Jaya High Tech Park exported RM6.93 billion worth of goods in 2020, an increase of 27.5% from 2019 (RM5.43 billion).


The virtual meeting was also attended by YB Datuk Malcolm Mussen Anak Lamoh, Assistant Minister for Industrial Development; YBhg. Datu Liaw Soon Eng, Permanent Secretary to MINTRED; YBhg. Datu Sharbini Suhaili, CEO of Sarawak Energy Berhad; En. Redzuan Abdul Rahman, Director of MIDA Sarawak; Mr. Robert Lau, General Manager of Kuching Port Authority and Puan Rodziah binti Mohamad, General Manager of Kuching Water Board.

HGST (Western Digital)’s new proposed plant
