Gedong will soon have its own entrepreneur centre, to be equipped with e-commerce facilities

KUCHING (Aug 9): Gedong will soon have its own centre for entrepreneurs called Anjung Pembangunan Usahawan Gedong, which among others will be equipped with the e-commerce facilities.

Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) in a statement stated that the tender for this project will be called soon and construction is expected to commence by end of the year.

It also explained that this new project is one of the many Anjung Usahawans (entrepreneur centres) established by Mintred with the objective to accelerate socio-economic transformation as well as supporting the growth of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout Sarawak.

“The well-planned Anjung will become a new landmark in this rural town situated approximately 27km away from Serian. The components of the project include a training centre, administration office, workshops, processing area, open terrace that can be utilised for various public events such as SME functions, hostels, ample parking spaces, toilets and praying area.

“It is located on a 3.8 acres of land adjacent to Pusat Kesihatan Gedong, and both the proposed Galeri Gedong and Gedong Resthouse,” said the statement.

It also mentioned Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also is also the International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister, had been briefed on the project and visited the site during his working visit to Gedong yesterday morning.

According to Mintred, the Anjung Pembangunan Usahawan Gedong is a project initiated with the goal of improving the living standard of the community by providing a comfortable venue for trading, training and processing of local products as well as being equipped with the e-commerce facilities for the local entrepreneurs.

“With the future of Gedong community in mind, Anjung Pembangunan Usahawan Gedong will focus mainly on enhancing the capacity and capability of the local entrepreneurs such as in food processing, craft making, weaving and product development; training the people on technopreneurship skills; and stimulate the economics activities of the surrounding areas,” it added.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister for Urban Development and Natural Resources, was accompanied at the working visit by Assistant Minister for International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Political Secretary to the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mohammed Kamaluddin Mohd Effendie.

Also present were Mintred’s permanent secretary Datu Liaw Soon Eng; Samarahan Resident Ibrahim Lumpu; Simunjan district officer Abdul Khalid Manaf and the Malay community Penghulu for Gedong, Abang Ronee Abang Sa’adeli.

During the visit, Awang Tengah was also briefed on the progress of several projects by Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID), Land and Survey Department (JTS), and Syarikat Sesco Berhad such as Proposed Road and Bridges for Kampung Gedong, River Improvement Works, Youth and Sports Center, Gedong Resthouse, and Additional or Late Applicant Funds (ALAF) Projects.
