KUCHING (June 10): Companies involved in the manufacturing sector in Sarawak are allowed to operate from 6am to 8pm at not exceeding 30 per cent workforce capacity at any one time during the current Movement Control Order (MCO).

This is confirmed by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred), which points out that they do not need a permit to operate.

“The manufacturing industries are listed under ‘Essential Service – Other Sectors’ in the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the MCO in Sarawak released on May 29 and updated on May 31.

“Therefore, companies under this category are allowed to operate from 6am to 8pm at not more than 30 per cent workforce capacity at any one time and thus, do not need to apply for permission to operate,” said Mintred in a statement today.

Mintred, however, said a company under this category will need to submit an application with justifications to the ministry if it needs to operate beyond the stipulated hours or with more than 30 per cent workforce capacity at any one time.

It added that the justifications were for the consideration of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“For employees to travel to work, the employer’s letter will suffice.”

In spite of this, employees who need to have inter-district travel will be required to obtain an approval from the Royal Malaysia Police.
